how do i make money if i’m only in middle school?

While your options are certainly limited while you’re in Middle School, that doesn’t mean you still can’t earn some money here and there.  For the most part, you probably won’t be able to get a traditional job at some “first-job” type place like a fast food restaurant.  Most require you be at least 15 years old.

But outside of the traditional job possibilities, there are still plenty of options.  Here are a few of our favorites…

  • Start Your Own Business – When I was in middle school, I had a business mowing lawns in my neighborhood.  I learned about discipline, marketing, and customer service.  To get started, I printed off some flyers and went door to door handing them out.  I was doing around 5 lawns each week, but I’ve heard of students doing much, much more.  You could also offer baby-sitting, pet care (when people are out of town), or even some web help.  During the peak of MySpace’s popularity, I remember reading about a middle school student who developed a business designing MySpace profile pages, and today is a multi-millionaire from her business.  Think about your talents and hobbies and see if there’s a way to make a business out of it.
  • Look For A Job With A Freelancer Or Individual – There are a lot of freelance workers or individuals who work from home who may need some help from time to time.  One of the best ways to find these opportunities is looking in the “jobs” section of Craigslist.  They may need assistance with filing, doing some internet research, or just some basic office tasks that you could assist with.
