As you get older, it’s harder to get mom and dad to foot the bill for a birthday celebration. But it’s difficult to throw one on your own without shelling out a ton of cash.
But you can have a birthday celebration or a party and keep your finances in check. Here’s how:
- Find a venue that doesn’t cost you a penny: Your apartment living room, a park or a recreation room on campus are perfect locales for getting your friends together. Or go to a water park or carnival where everyone covers his own admission fee.
- Let your friends pitch in: Have a potluck dinner or a picnic. Ask everyone to bring a favorite dessert or appetizer and you provide the meal—something inexpensive like pizza.
- Double Duty Decorations: Don’t waste money on streamers and balloons; instead, let your snacks do the work for you! Buy Goldfish and fill up a goldfish bowl, complete with a fish scooper; or take different colored M & Ms and fill up glass jars.
YOUR 2 CENTS – What other ideas do you have to throw an inexpensive party?
